What is Short functional text?

Functional text is a text that provides information on something in everyday life. The use of functional text is to adjusted to a specific function.

Types of Short Functional Text

1.      Announcements: provides complete and clear information about a particular event.

2.      Advertisements: Introducing a product or service to other people so that these people want to buy or are interested in the services offered.

3.      Invitations: to invite someone to attend an event.

4.      Recipes: to inform how to make something through the steps that have been given.

5.      Greeting card.

6.      Memo.

7.      Notice text.

 

The types of functional text mentioned earlier, there are also other categories of functional text, such as:

 1. Interpersonal text (teks interpersonal): This type of text is used for communication between people, such as emails, text messages, and social media posts. It is meant to convey a message, share information, or build relationships[1]. 

Examples : 

• Email: An email to a friend asking about their day

• Text message: A conversation between two friends discussing plans for the weekend

• Social media post: A comment on a friend's post expressing support

 

2. Transactional text (teks transaksi): This type of text is used for business or financial transactions, such as bank statements, invoices, and receipts. It provides information about financial transactions and is meant to facilitate the exchange of goods or services[1].

Examples :

• Bank statement: A statement showing recent financial transactions

• Invoice: A document detailing the cost of goods or services provided

• Receipt: A document confirming a purchase and the amount paid

 

3. Informative text (teks informasi): This type of text provides information on a specific topic, such as news articles, instruction manuals, and academic papers. It is meant to educate or inform the reader about a particular subject[1].

Examples :

• News article: An article discussing current events

• Instruction manual: A guide on how to assemble a piece of furniture

• Academic paper: A research paper on a specific topic

 

4. Persuasive text (teks pengaruh): This type of text is used to persuade the reader to take a particular action or believe a certain idea, such as advertisements, political speeches, and opinion pieces. It is meant to influence the reader's thoughts or actions[1].

Examples :

• Advertisement: A commercial promoting a product or service

• Political speech: A speech aimed at persuading people to vote for a particular candidate

• Opinion piece: An article expressing the author's views on a topic

 

5. Long Functional Text, examples: Descriptive, Narrative, Recount, Review, Expositional text, Report. 

 

6. Short Functional Text : Letter, Invitation, advertisement, Warning sign, Shopping List, Grafic, Manual book.  

These categories of functional text serve different purposes and are used in various contexts, from personal communication to business transactions and entertainment[1].

1.      Short and easy to understand

2.      Written in an interesting way

3.      Sometimes accompanied by pictures

4.      Packaged in an interesting way
